“I DON’T LIKE SCREENS very much,” says David Karp, founder and chief executive officer of Tumblr, the popular microblogging platform. “Big bright monitors drive me nuts”; screens in the bedroom are “gross.” He takes his rule seriously, for in Karp’s newly renovated loft, in south Williamsburg, Brooklyn, screens are scarce, as is, for that matter, anything particularly shiny or smooth. It is, instead, a dedication to all that is aged, rough or both: ancient bricks, weathered concrete, blackened steel and reclaimed oak."...
Bypassing glamour and high style, the pair employed architect Richard Landry & interior designer Joan Behnke to take a parcel of LA land and build a environmentally conscious family home from scratch. In addition to composting, gray-water technology for irrigation, and environmentally friendly construction materials, the pair installed two substantial arrays of photovoltaic solar panels (one next to the garden, the other on the roof of the house) that would meet all of the property’s electricity needs.

I've been obsessed with Jenni Kayne's LA Home for quite some time. Like... Obsessed. I will wake up some mornings and immediately think about her backyard, her simply cool kitchen, or her genius use of making white walls cozy & warm. She's also an incredible fashion designer {I obsess over her D'Orsay flats that I want in every pattern/color} and a loving, hands-on mom of 2 {see a day in the life article in this month's Lonny Mag}. She seemingly has it all and although I'm not one to covet... I find myself having moments of pure envy of this one...
